OTTAWA – Rona Ambrose, Leader of the Official Opposition and interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, issued the following statement today on the Honourable Maxime Bernier’s decision to seek the Conservative Party of Canada leadership:

“I, along with all Conservatives, welcome MP Bernier’s announcement to seek the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada. As a Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister, Maxime worked tirelessly for his constituents in Beauce and indeed, all Canadians. ‎I would like to wish him well as he pursues the leadership of our party.”

Effective immediately, MP Diane Finley will assume the responsibilities of Official Opposition Critic for Innovation, Science and Economic Development. MP Alexander Nuttall will assume the responsibilities of Official Opposition Deputy Critic for Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Official Opposition Critic for the New Sharing Economy.

The new sharing economy includes well-known companies like Airbnb and Uber. Some estimates show that the sector is expected to reach $335 billion in global revenues by 2025.

“Conservatives want a minimal amount of government intervention so that Canadians can to continue to benefit from the sharing economy.” said Nuttall. “Less government regulation leads to more competition and lower prices for Canadian consumers.”
