OTTAWA – The Conservative Party of Canada today released its leadership election rules for the selection of the next party leader. The rules were formed by the Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC), and established to meet the goal of making the race as fair, balanced, and transparent as possible for all potential candidates.
With the rules now in place, the Conservative Party Leadership race is officially open, and, as previously announced, will end on May 27, 2017.
“This is an exciting time for our party and its members, and with these rules now set, we can begin the process of choosing our next leader, and the next Prime Minister of our country,” said Dan Nowlan, Chair of the Leadership Election Organizing Committee. “While LEOC still has some work left, I personally thank the members of the committee for their dedication in getting these standards in place, and, through these rules, making this leadership election truly open, fair, and transparent for all.”
Nowlan concluded that he looked forward to the process getting officially underway, and beginning the important work of preparing the party for 2019, and offering Canadians a government that will focus on the economy and making life more affordable.
This is the second leadership race in the history of the modern day Conservative Party. In order to vote in the Conservative Party of Canada’s leadership election, you must hold a valid Conservative Party membership. We encourage anyone interested in voting in the leadership election to purchase or renew their membership now to ensure they’re eligible to vote.
